Chelsea will have to wait until the outcome of Real Madrid's presidential elections before completing a possible move for Roberto Carlos.

The 33-year-old Brazilian left-back has been identified as an addition to the Chelsea squad and would join Michael Ballack, Andriy Shevchenko, Salomon Kalou and Jon Obi Mikel at Stamford Bridge.

But a possible transfer looks unlikely before the new president is decided.

Real vice-president Emilio Butragueno told a British newspaper: "We believe it would be better not to decide anything until after the elections on July 2nd.

"It's logical the next president and his advisors should decide if they want Roberto. We'll see how they feel about him and Chelsea and a definite decision will be taken on his future."  PA
