Soccer Round-up: Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton has admitted a charge of violent conduct relating to an incident involving the then Manchester City player's team-mate Ousmane Dabo.

The incident happened at City's Carrington training ground on May 1, 2007, prior to Barton's €7.2 million move to St James' Park in June last year.

Barton has requested a personal hearing from the Football Association which will be scheduled before an FA regulatory commission in due course.

Tottenham full-back Gareth Bale has signed a new four-year contract to commit himself to White Hart Lane until 2012.

The 19-year-old Wales full-back was offered new terms to the deal he signed when he arrived from Southampton a year ago.

A statement from Spurs read: "Gareth Bale has signed a new contract that will see him commit his future to the club until 2012."
