AC Milan have handed Ronaldo a way out of Real Madrid by offering to take the out-of-favour striker to the San Siro on a free transfer.

But it appears the Rossoneri will have to change tack, with Real president Ramon Calderon adamant the former Inter Milan star would not be allowed to leave without a fee involved.

Nevertheless, Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani remains confident of getting his man.

He said: "There is this possibility and I cannot deny it. We are waiting to see what Real Madrid say. The offer involves taking the player on a free transfer."

Even though Real coach Fabio Capello is unlikely to pick Ronaldo again this season - the player has struggled for form and with injury this term - Calderon is adamant the Brazilian will not be allowed to exit the Bernabeu on the cheap, especially as he has 18 months remaining on his contract.

He said: "Real Madrid are not ready to allow Ronaldo to leave for free. There has been no agreement. I work in relation to the decisions that are made by the coach. The board will look for a suitable solution for the club and the player.

"I have already said that the players are not like merchandise and we cannot move them on like they are. What we want is that all parties benefit and nobody is left feeling bad."  PA
