Robinho bailed as ‘assault’ probed

MANCHESTER City forward Robinho has been arrested and bailed by local police investigating an alleged sex assault.

The Brazilian international, 25, met police as part of a “criminal investigation” into the alleged attack at a nightclub in Leeds.

Robinho “strenuously denied any allegation of wrongdoing” and had been released on bail, his spokesman said.

West Yorkshire Police said a man had been arrested on Tuesday in connection with an alleged incident on January 14th.

Robinho’s spokesman, Chris Nathaniel, said: “[Robinho] strenuously denies any allegation of wrongdoing or criminality and is happy to co-operate with the police if further required.”

Arshavin wages hold up move

ARSENE Wenger has told Andrei Arshavin he will not break Arsenal’s wage structure to bring him to the club.

The manager insisted yesterday he had “not spoken about wages with the player”, a claim supported by Arshavin’s agent, Dennis Lachter, who blames Zenit St Petersburg for the stalemate.

Flood miss helps Celtic through

DUNDEE UNITED midfielder Willo Flood missed the crucial penalty in a dramatic penalty shoot-out last night to send Celtic into the Co-operative Insurance Cup final.

Flood, who is expected to sign for Celtic, missed his second penalty of the sudden-death shoot-out as the Hoops won 11-10 to set up an Old Firm final. The match had finished goalless.

Indonesia bid to host World Cup

INDONESIA have put themselves forward as surprise bidders for the 2018 or 2022 World Cup. The proposal from the Indonesian FA is one of six already received by Fifa ahead of Monday’s deadline.

England, Japan, Qatar, Russia and a joint application from Spain and Portugal are the other formal expressions of interest on the table.
