Rugby:Leinster coach Joe Schmidt has elected to register New Zealand born duo Andrew Goodman and Michael Bent for Heineken Cup fare ahead of the back-to-back rounds against Frenchs side Clermont Auvergne.
Bent, who was capped for Ireland during the November test series before playing a game for Leinster, has been named on the European champions’ roster with Ireland Under-20 scrumhalf Luke McGrath the player to be deregistered. Goodman, who has played in the centre since arriving at the Irish province, has also been registered with hooker Tom Sexton the player to drop out.
Leinster are likely to be without Brian O’Driscoll until January while the impending return of Eoin O’Malley probably won’t be in time for this Sunday’s game against Clermont at Stade Marcel Michelin. Luke Fitzgerald is also recovering well from long term injury but he’s still a week or two away.
Connacht coach Eric Elwood has 17 players on the injured list and he has elected to register promising young former underage international secondrow Daniel Qualter in place of injured wing Mark McCrea.
In the absence of the injured Aaron Jarvis, Ospreys have added the former New Zealand prop, Campbell Johnstone, who has 14 Heineken Cup appearances under his belt for Biarritz Olympique, while Glasgow Warriors will have the Scottish-qualified former Crusaders wing, Sean Maitland, in their ranks.
As confirmed yesterday number eight, James Coughlan, has been included by two-time Heineken Cup champions, Munster, with the Auckland Blues and former New Zealand wing, Rudi Wulf, returning for a second European stint with current Top 14 leaders, Toulon. Wulf played five Heineken Cup games for the French heavyweights during the 2010/11 season.
