Buccaneers, who haven't been able to buy a win in recent weeks, lost 16-29 to the division's leaders who are now clear with 47 points.
Clontarf scored a decisive victory at Eaton Park with Ballymena losing 6-36 to move into second-place with 40 points.
UL Bohemians beat their near rivals Shannon at Thomond Park to third. Shannon, who claimed the title last year, lost when Bohemians chalked up a 15-6 win over them.
