Hayes tries to keep September Group One hot-streak going at Newmarket

Wachman aims for Group One double

Chris Hayes started the month never having won a Group One but the in-form jockey will end the month with a top-flight hat-trick if La Collina can land today’s Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.

The Kevin Prendergast-trained filly reduced Hayes to tears when springing a 25/1 surprise in Leopardstown's Matron Stakes three weeks ago. Just eight days after that, the Limerick jockey secured Irish Leger glory on Voleuse De Coeurs.

Three subsequent winners at Listowel only emphasised Hayes’s September hot-streak but La Collina, a supplementary entry into the Sun Chariot, faces a big task against old rivals Sky Lantern and Elusive Kate in today’s mile highlight.

David Wachman runs Duntle in the Chariot as she pursues an elusive Group One prize and the Tipperary trainer also runs the unbeaten supplementary hope Come To Heel in the Cheveley Park Stakes. This is another hot event and he knows the scale of Come To Heel's task.
