Fan ejected from Fairyhouse after drink appeared to be thrown at runners

A racegoer was ejected from Fairyhouse on Saturday after an incident in which a drink appeared to be thrown at the runners in a race.

The incident took place close to the winning line in the Happy New Year From Tote.ie Beginners Chase — which was shown live on Racing TV — as what appeared to be a plastic cup filled with liquid splashed in the air towards the horses.

The track issued a statement on Twitter which read: “Following the running of the 6th race, we were aware of an incident regarding a member of the general public.

“We identified the man, took his details & removed him from the course.”
