Limerick were three points in front in this Division One B game at Markievicz Park when Quinn struck in a crowded goalmouth four minutes into stoppage time.

But this was a game Limerick should have wrapped up in the first half; they posted 10 wides in the opening 35 minutes and added seven more in the second half.Sligo shot just six wides in all.

Maurice Horan got the visitors off the mark with a point after 20 seconds and Eoin Keating doubled Limerick's lead before Seán Davey opened Sligo's account after eight minutes.

A point by Keating from a difficult angle kept the table-toppers ahead, but a couple of late points by Mark Brehony both from frees, put Sligo ahead 0-4 to 0-3 at half-time.

Colm Hickey squared the match at the start of the second half before Adrian Marren raised Sligo's first flag of the half on 39 minutes.

Limerick regained control with several unanswered points and opened a three-point gap when Stephen Kelly ran the length of the pitch before scoring a delightful point on 57 minutes.

Sligo were staring at their third defeat on the trot until Quinn got through for their golden goal deep into stoppage time.

Limerick played superbly as a team, their lightning interpassing causing problems for their opponents, who were short a number of regulars, including Dessie Sloyan, Gerry McGowan and All Star Eamon O'Hara.

Limerick midfielder John Galvin was man of the match.

Limerick boss Liam Kearns was disappointed. "We created a lot of scoring opportunities but failed to finish," he said.

Sligo manager James Kearins was pleased with his team's late rally and pointed to their game against Meath in two weeks' time as "a big game to win".
