20-year-old referred to judiciary over James Ackerman tackle

A 20-year-old player has been referred to the judiciary over a tackle that tragically ended the life of 25-year-old prop forward James Ackerman.

Ackerman, a player with Brisbane club Sunshine Coast, was knocked unconscious in a tackle by Norths Devils' Francis Molo during a Queensland Cup match on Saturday.

He never regained consciousness and died in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital on Monday.

Queensland Rugby League (QRL) said its match review committee followed its standard weekly process by reviewing the weekend’s Intrust Super Cup matches.

“An incident involving Norths Devils player Francis Molo has been referred to the judiciary at a date to be confirmed,” a statement said.

The QRL has not provided any details of the charge Molo faces.

Ackerman is survived by his parents, two brothers, wife Saraa, and children Olliver and Milly.
