Tennis: Irish Davis Cup player Conor Niland continued his strong showing in the £8,000 ITF Men's Futures event in Glasgow, when he beat David Klier (Germany) 6-4, 6-1 in yesterday's semi-final, writes Johnny Watterson.

Limerick-born Niland will now face the number three seed, Richard Bloomfield, in the final today.

It has been just reward for the Berkeley University graduate as his aim for this season was to work hard on improving his world ranking. His win at the quarter-final stage was particularly pleasing as he beat Simone Vagnozzi (Italy) 6-4, 6-4. Vagnozzi was seeded number two in the event.
