St Mary's 3-8 Marist College 0-14:With their centre half forward Cein McMonagle in fine scoring form, reigning All-Ireland champions St Mary's, Edenderry qualified for the provincial decider with a hard-earned victory over Marist College, Athlone in Mullingar on Saturday afternoon.

The Kildare lad scored all of his side’s total in the first half, including an opportunist goal in the 13th minute and a great finish in the 25th minute. Marist’s Nicky Kelly was unlucky not to find the net with the last kick of the half and St Mary’s led by 2-3 to 0-6 at the break.

When Ruairí McNamee poked home his side’s third goal in the 47th minute, the champions led by five points (3-5 to 0-9) and looked assured of victory.

However, with Conor Marlowe outstanding, the Athlone lads fought back well and it needed a McMonagle free in injury-time to guarantee his side’s place in the provincial decider.
