Paul McGinley surged up the leaderboard at the USPGA Championship in Tulsa this afternoon, a second round of 66 moving him into a share of tenth place.
The Dubliner, who carded a 74 in the first round, matched current leader Scott Verplank's round of day and at level par is four shots off the pace.
Open champion Padraig Harrington, meanwhile, failed to make inroads on the lead at a sweltering Southern Hills, but thankfully for the Dubliner there was little sign of anyone pulling away from the field.
Harrington began the day on one-under and quickly picked up a shot on the par four 10th. Unfortunately for him his first hole was not a sign of things to come as he promptly bogeyed the 11th and 12th, before dropping to more shots immediately before the turn.
He arrested the slide with a birdie at the sixth but a fifth bogey on the ninth meant he had to settle for a 73 to lie two-over for the tournament.
Darren Clarke has also enjoyed a promising start, a birdie at his first hole giving him hope of surviving the halfway cut following a poor round of 77 yesterday.
Overnight leader Graeme Storm did not get much sleep last night and it was only fitting because after a dream start, his second round turned out to be a nightmare.
Storm began with a two-shot lead, but a six-over-par 76 has him at one-over 141 through 36 holes.
