Local favourite Hingis goes out

Tennis: Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated local favourite Martina Hingis 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 last night to reach the semi-finals of the Zurich Open.

She will next face unseeded Slovak Daniela Hantuchova, who reached the semi-finals with a walkover after top seed Amelie Mauresmo withdrew on Thursday with a shoulder injury.

The second semi-final will be between Maria Sharapova and unseeded Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik.

Second seed Sharapova had little difficulty against Swiss wild card Timea Bacsinszky, winning 6-4, 6-3, and Srebotnik defeated Russia's Maria Kirilenko 6-3, 6-2.
