Portugal 2 Ireland 1A late goal handed Brian Kerr's under-19s a harsh defeat in Lisbon yesterday. In the second of two friendlies (the sides drew 0-0 on Tuesday), Ireland dominated for long periods but were undone in the 85th minute when Castro scored from close range.

The same player gave Portugal the lead in the 51st minute, but Ireland equalised 20 minutes later when Stephen Brennan's cross was headed in by Ian Simpemba.

Meanwhile, the Irish under-15s were beaten by Wales for the second time this week, losing 3-2 in yesterday's friendly at the AUL Complex.

The Irish led after 47 minutes through Ian Morris but conceded three goals to Jamal Easter (2) and Scott Thyer, before Michael Mooney scored a penalty in the 71st minute.
