Valerie Hassett had three shots to spare over an international field when winning the All-Ireland Senior Ladies Strokeplay Championship at Lahinch last week. Hassett had rounds of 76 and 80 in difficult conditions to win from Pamela Williamson of Barberton in Scotland, who scored 159 after rounds of 77 and 82. Nancy Fitzgerald from the United States took third place on 162, one shot ahead of Claudine Chatrier of France who carded 163. The Ardee Trophy for the best nett score went to Ann Hayden of Foxrock, who returned 147 off a 12 handicap to win from Brin Heaton of Royal Belfast on 153.

The Irish team to play England in the Senior Ladies International at Burnham and Barrow on October 17th and 18th is: Jane Allen (Royal Portrush), Roma English (Larne), Rhona Fanagan (Milltown), Valerie Hassett (Ennis), Marjorie McCorduck (Roscrea), Eileen McMullen (Donegal), Terry Sexton (Dun Laoghaire). The reserve is Shirley Macdonald (Royal Portrush) while the team captain is Mary Anderson of Woodbrook.
