NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Kerry  team boss Páidí Ó Sé's worst fears were realised yesterday, when it was confirmed that midfielder William Kirby will be out for the rest of the season with cruciate knee ligament damage.

Kirby, who had just regained his place on the Kerry starting line-up, injured himself playing against Wicklow in the opening round of the NFL.

The GAA has announced that as a mark of respect to its former president, the late John Dowling, Croke Park offices will be closed today until 2.15 p.m.
