Sport and the media: RTÉ yesterday announced Glen Killane will be the station's group head of sport, with immediate effect. The 34-year-old Killane has been head of television sport with RTÉ since July 2004.

Noel Curran, managing director of RTÉ Television, said: "In the increasingly competitive sports rights market that all broadcasters face, it's important that RTÉ maximises the impact of the unique range of sport that we offer viewers and sporting organisations. RTÉ sports coverage spans television, radio, news and online and Glen's appointment will ensure that both the audience and the rights holder reap all the benefits that RTÉ can offer."
