Leinster Colleges SC quarter-final/Kilkenny CBS 0-11 Castlecomer CS 0-09: Kilkenny CBS hung on tenaciously during the closing 10 minutes before defeating Castlecomer Community School in an exciting and hard-fought Leinster Colleges senior hurling championship quarter-final at Jenkinstown yesterday afternoon.

The losers cut the deficit to two points when centre back Kieran Mooney landed a terrific point from an 80-metre free in the 51st minute. However, try as they might afterwards they couldn't find a way through a disciplined Kilkenny CBS defence.

Kilkenny CBS thus booked a semi-final meeting with St Kieran's College (Kilkenny) or Good Counsel (Wexford) who meet in the second quarter-final on Saturday.

The game exploded into life, and early points were exchanged by Mark Kelly (CBS) and David Healy. A fifth-minute point from a free by Mark Bergin gave the winners the lead which they held to the finish.

At the break Castlecomer trailed by 0-4 to 0-8, with Healy getting two late points from frees. Healy continued to pile up the scores in the second half, but despite getting close with 10 minutes left they could not make up the deficit.
