A blistering first-half performance by Moorefield effectively won them their first Kildare senior football championship title since 1962 at Newbridge yesterday.

Moorefield, who had defeated holders Sarsfields in the quarter-finals, were on top virtually all over the field and held Kilcock scoreless until the last minute of the opening half.

Patrick Behan opened their account with a point in the third minute and shortly afterwards Cian O'Neill had the ball in the back of the Kilcock net. Their second goal came from Brian McGrogan midway through the half.

Former Kildare and Meath forward Cathal Sheridan got Kilcock's first score in the 29th but Moorefield led by 2-10 to 0-1 at half-time.
