Women's Football:Kerry placed one foot firmly in the quarter-finals of the Suzuki Women's Football National League by maintaining their 100 per cent record in Division One A but they were pushed all the way by Tyrone in Banagher yesterday.

Kerry stormed into a 1-4 to 0-0 half-time lead. The goal was converted from the penalty spot by Mags O'Donoghue, the award having been made for a foul on Geraldine O'Shea. O'Shea finished with a tally of five points and she was very well supported by captain Sarah O'Connor.

The wind made conditions very difficult but Tyrone kept in touch in the second half and were back in contention when Sarah Connolly scored two goals in three minutes to bring her side to within three points of Kerry. Tyrone substitute Jolene Donnelly scored two points but a couple of frees by O'Shea helped Kerry secure their third win from three games.

With just one success to date, Tyrone are in relegation trouble but given their performance here, they will not be daunted by the clash with Laois next week.
