McKENNA CUP SF: Fermanagh 0-12 Monaghan 0-8MONAGHAN never really got going in this first fixture of the 2010 Dr McKenna Cup and looked a couple of yards short of their neighbours throughout the game at Brewster Park in Enniskillen.

A scoring surge just after half-time that saw Matthew Keenan notch up three points and James Sherry one put Fermanagh on course for victory.

Points were swapped early on with Hugh McElroy hitting a brace for Monaghan and Sherry and Tommy McElroy replying in kind for Fermanagh.

Fermanagh built up a three-point lead through Ryan Carson, Paul Ward and Sherry. Sherry’s point had come from a free following a foul on ex-Tyrone player Aidan McCarron which saw full back Dick Clerkin red-carded.

Keenan and Sherry gave Fermanagh a nice cushion with four points in the opening 10 minutes of the second half and although McElroy and McKenna scored for Monaghan they were never able to eat sufficiently into the lead to put the result in doubt. Fermanagh were able to snipe a few points as the game wound its way down.
