UCC 1-14 UUJ 0-9:UCC used the strong wind to build up an unassailable 1-13 to 0-2 interval lead at the superb Parnells GAA complex in Coolock to book a place in the quarter-finals.

UUJ, who hit 10 second-half wides, never looked like recovering from the blistering start from the Cork college, who were four points in front after four minutes.

Then wing-back Peter Crowley raced through to blast home a goal which saw UCC open up a 1-6 to 0-0 lead after 12 minutes.

Dan O’Sullivan and Peter Acheson were on top in midfield and the all-Kerry full-forward line of Paul Geaney, Cox (six frees) and Gavin O’Grady picked off some excellent points to help establish a 1-11 to 0-0 lead before Conor McAliskey opened UUJ’s account after 27 minutes. Though Paul Devlin later added three points there was no way back for UUJ.
