Boxing News: Joe Calzaghe will have to wait until the autumn to build on his career-best world super-middleweight title victory over Jeff Lacy in March.

Calzaghe has been forced to scrap his projected July 8th WBO and IBF title defence at the Millennium Stadium in his home city of Cardiff due to a recurring left hand injury.

No opponent had been found with the bout less than six weeks away, but a deal was close to being struck with former light-heavyweight champion Glen Johnson.

Injuries had previously forced Calzaghe to delay his fight against Lacy, and also forced two postponements of projected contests against Johnson two years ago.

Promoter Frank Warren said: "I am really disappointed that Joe has had to withdraw because of this latest injury. After medical consultation he has been advised to rest so we are looking at Joe returning to action in the autumn."

The show will go ahead with Danny Williams' heavyweight rematch with Matt Skelton now topping the bill and Amir Khan appearing on the undercard.
