Harrington in danger of missing cut

Padraig Harrington's preparations for next week's US Open are not going according to plan at the St Jude Championship in Memphis today.

With play suspended due to inclement weather, Harrington lies one shot outside the projected cut mark of four over. The Dubliner, Ireland's only representative at Oakmount next week, is currently on five over and with just one hole remaining needs a birdie at the last to keep his hopes alive for the weekend.

Austlalia's Adam Scott currently leads the way on seven under, two clear of Brian Gay while overnight leader Fredrik Jacobsen (three under) has yet to start his second round.

Tiger Woods, meanwhile, will launch his bid for a 13th major victory in the company of holder Geoff Ogilvy and Scotland's US amateur champion Richie Ramsay at next week's US Open.

The reigning US Open, British Open and US amateur champions are traditionally grouped together for the first two rounds and Woods earned his spot by winning last year's British Open at Hoylake.

World number two Phil Mickelson, who withdrew from this week's St Jude Championship because of an inflamed wrist, has been grouped with Jim Furyk, winner of the 2003 US Open at Olympia Fields, and world number four Scott.

Harrington will tee off alongside Ernie Els and Masters champion Zach Johnson. Other notable threesomes include Vijay Singh, Davis Love III and Henrik Stenson; K.J. Choi, David  Toms and Canadian Mike Weir, and Retief Goosen, Luke Donald and Angel Cabrera.

Colin Montgomerie, a runner-up on three occasions, has been drawn with Chris DiMarco and Tim Clark.  Twice Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal tees off in an all-Spanish grouping with Sergio Garcia and Pablo Martin, who turned professional on Monday.
