Sport Grants: The GAA are to receive a Government grant of €3.65 million towards the installation of floodlights at Croke Park.

The Minister for Sport, John O'Donoghue, yesterday announced funding for a number of projects, including the Croke Park lights, an extra €750,000 towards the completion of the national rowing centre in Inniscarra, Co Cork, and €1 million to the University of Limerick, where facilities will be provided in coming years in an effort to attract teams preparing for the 2012 Olympics in London.

Work on installing the Croke Park lights is well under way and is due for completion in January.

The first floodlit game at the stadium will be the National Football League encounter between Dublin and Tyrone on Saturday, February 3rd.

In all, the Minister announced over €14 million in additional funding yesterday, all towards the provision of key facilities.
