CRICKET: Not a ball was bowled on day one of Ireland's four-day InterContinental Cup match against Namibia in Clontarf yesterday as the rain made play impossible, reports James Fitzgerald.

A steady drizzle started an hour before the scheduled start of play at 11am and continued throughout the day, much to the frustration of both teams.

This is really a must-win game for Adrian Birrell's team, as Namibia are seen as the weakest side in a group that includes Scotland and the UAE.

Weather permitting, play will start today and for the remainder of the game at 10.30 rather than 11am in an effort to make up for some of the lost time. Play can be extended if more time is lost.

The forecast is not good for the rest of the week and the danger is that the game will fizzle out into rain-affected draw.
