Sports Digest:  Rugby - Ben Cohen has given England boss Andy Robinson a major injury scare ahead of their Six Nations opening match against Wales.

Leicester scrumhalf Harry Ellis is battling to make the Twickenham clash on February 4th after undergoing knee surgery, and Northampton wing Cohen now also faces a fitness fight.

Saints have confirmed that Cohen suffered a fractured cheekbone during the European Challenge Cup victory over Narbonne last Friday, and is likely to be sidelined for a month.

It is the same cheekbone Cohen broke during last season's tsunami fundraising game at Twickenham.

The World Cup winner returned to England's starting line-up against Australia in November, scoring a try, while he also featured in the narrow defeat to New Zealand before Wasps wing Tom Voyce replaced him for the autumn finale against Samoa.

"Ben took a knock to the cheekbone that has given him trouble before," said Northampton rugby director Budge Pountney.

"He has got a crack on it and he needs an operation. It looks like he will be out of action for four weeks."

Hingis aims for Tokyo

Tennis:  Former world number one Martina Hingis will appear among a strong field at the Pan Pacific Open, beginning at the end of January, organisers said in Tokyo yesterday.

Hingis, who is set to make her return to the WTA Tour in Australia next month, has entered the $1.3 million Tokyo event with Maria Sharapova, Lindsay Davenport and Serena Williams.

Hingis and Davenport have won the title four times.

Hingis has accepted wildcards to play in tournaments on the Gold Coast and in Sydney before the Australian Open.
