Barry Cash completed an unusual double at Ballinrobe yesterday when making all to win aboard Killaloe and Goodnight Mike, both of which were first reserves.
Quadco, easy winner of the Martel Bumper at Aintree on Grand National day, was installed a hot favourite on his jumping debut in the Monaghan Plant Hire Maiden Hurdle. However the Pat Fahy-trained gelding made a number of mistakes, and was found to be lame after finishing a well-beaten fourth behind the Donie Hassett-trained Killaloe.
Goodnight Mike, runner-up in his previous five starts, gained a deserved victory in the John McMahon Beginners Chase. The odds-on favourite Kirmar, like Quadco trained by Fahy and ridden by Ruby Walsh, crashed out at the first leaving the way clear for Peter Cluskey's charge to beat Tara Sound by three and a half lengths.
Seamus Heffernan moved onto the 22 winner mark for the season when partnering a 47 to 1 double aboard Seviche and Pas Possible.
