Limerick SFC Final/ Fr Casey's 0-12 St Senan's 1-7: Fr Casey's claimed their eighth county title at the Gaelic Grounds yesterday, but they had to repel a late challenge from Senan's after Conor Mullane set-up a thrilling finale with the game's only goal, three minutes from time.
Casey's set out their stall right from the start, with Martin Scannell and John Lenihan soon putting points on the board. When Scannell added a third, they had Senan's facing an uphill task.
In fact, Senan's had to wait until the 19th minute for former county player Timmy Carroll to get them off the mark, but Scannell and Tommy Collins increased Fr Casey's advantage, before wing back Andrew Lane left it 0-5 to 0-2 at the interval.
Senan's fell further in arrears after Daniel O'Connor and teenager Robert Browne tacked on two more points, and while Ian Ryan breathed life back into their challenge, they still trailed by six after 50 minutes, 0-11 to 0-5.
Casey's, who laid the foundations for victory with a brilliant half back line of Timmy Gleeson, Padraig Browne and Andrew Scannell, relaxed their grip and although Paul Ryan and Conor Mullane reduced arrears, there still seemed little threat - until Mullane's late goal gave them an unexpected scare.
