Leinster Schools Senior Cup:Wesley College 26 Kilkenny College 15 PROP IVAN Campbell was the hero yesterday as his second-half hat-trick of tries handed Wesley College victory over Kilkenny in their first Leinster Senior Cup game in 15 years.
The last time Wesley took part in the first round of the Senior Cup in 1994, coach and former Irish and Lions player Eric Miller was a student and his side rose to the occasion with a dominant second-half performance.
Kilkenny's quick back-line tore into Wesley early on and two penalties from Greg Hawe were cancelled out by Scott Caldbeck's try and a penalty from Peter Lydon.
Centre Danny Ruddock and winger Foster Horan troubled Wesley throughout the opening period, before Lydon cut through the Dublin side's defence two minutes into the second half to give Kilkenny a 15-6 lead.
Fullback Ken McGloughlin struck back with a penalty almost immediately and Wesley set about dominating their opponents with an impressive performance from their forwards for the remainder.
