Belvedere pressure pays off

Belvedere ... 15 St Mary's ... 0First-half tries from openside flanker Robert Carson and scrum-half Liam Power gave Belvedere all the impetus they needed to fend off a determined St Mary's side in this Leinster Schools Junior Cup (Section B) second-round replay at Donnybrook yesterday.

Belvedere kicked for position and played the pressure game. Their first try was a clear reward for this approach as Carson was on to a blockdown in a flash to drive ove the line in the fifth minute.

Power took the direct route to the posts for the second try. Carson converted and just before the break, outhalf Eoin Heavey showed awareness beyond his years to calmly stroke over a drop goal.
