Madam, – As a rank-and-file civil servant – or bloated fat cat as we're more commonly known – I must agree with those surveyed by the latest Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI poll who believe that the economy will get worse (Front Page, January 23rd). The latest pay cut has forced me to abandon my landline phone service entirely, not to be replaced with any other.
I’ve also switched to exclusively shopping in a couple of outlets where my money, what’s left of it, will be heading over to our continental European neighbours. You can’t stimulate an economy with savage attacks against the PAYE sector that leave the taxpayer broke and with little choice but the cheapest options. – Yours, etc,
