Sir, - Having read Patricia McKenna's protest at the media reaction to Atlantic Dawn (September 25th), I'm glad someone else feels uneasy that Ireland should be joining (albeit a little late) in the exploitation of other people's fishing waters. It seemed ironic to me that, in school, we were taught how Ireland's fishing fleet had to compete with (Russian) factory ships and their threat to already dwindling fishing stocks. Yet when an Irish version is procured, the Irish media ignore the environmental and imperialist questions about such a venture - so much so as to sound like those racist British 1950s newsreels about how glad the inhabitants of the Bikini atoll islands were to help world peace. - Yours, etc.,
Michael McCabe, Grattan Street, Dublin 2.
