Madam, - Nick McGinley (June 12th) describes a most unpleasant experience. He has my sympathy - as well, no doubt, as that of other readers. He suggests that the behaviour of the thugs, and their freedom to act with apparent impunity, could be tackled by allowing more gardaí to carry side-arms. Surely it could be better tackled by having more men and women patrolling the streets with the primary task of dealing with this type of anti-social (and criminal) activity.
