Sir, - An appeal to avoid Eyre Square, Galway, by night because of a recent run of violence was made recently by Mr Tony Martin, head of the accident and emergency department at University College Hospital, Galway, in the Galway Advertiser.
A native of Limerick, I arrived in Galway on September 1st for a master's degree in the NUI. Amazingly, I have yet to see a single member of the Garda Siochana in Galway, or even a patrol car in the distant horizon. Where are they? Could there be a connection between this and Mr. Martin's appeal? - Yours, etc.,
