A chara, – I am surprised that Minister for Education Jan O'Sullivan is questioning the appointment of chaplains to third-level colleges ("Inquiry into way public funds used to pay third-level chaplains", October 8th).
Most students are probably away from home for the first time and they are in a challenging environment. Many will need guidance. Skilled chaplains can provide advice and help. I believe that the churches are best placed to select them, not the public service. – Is mise,
