Sir, – It concerns me to read of the warm welcome given by many to the proposed second runway at Dublin airport.
The expansion of airport capacity is completely incompatible with the curtailment of climate change. A study commissioned by the European Parliament expects the aviation industry, which operates in a legislative vacuum, to produce 22 per cent of the world’s CO2 emissions by 2050.
The campaign for a moratorium on all new runways is well under way in many countries such as the UK. I would encourage the citizens of Ireland to follow suit. – Yours, etc,
LYNN McMAHON,
