Respect for taxpayers

Sir, – I would like to support the sentiments expressed by Fearghal O'Boyle (January 11th).

I would further like to suggest that 10 taxpayers be chosen by lottery and invited to the opening of roads, public buildings, bridges, schools, and so on.

These taxpayers should be collected from work or home to attend the opening.

They should be wined and dined for the day, and thanked, as representatives of the taxpaying population, without whom no public spending would be possible. – Yours, etc,
