TERENCE FLYNN,
Madam, - Why do Donal Marren of Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council and the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company seem so incredulous that there could be any objection to the rebuilding of the Victoria monument at the harbour. While I wouldn't condone threats to anybody in relation to the work, I do believe that there is considerable opposition to the reappearance of a monument that celebrates and commemorates the life and times of Queen Victoria. It may have been acceptable to the good old royalists of the time but it hardly reflects the attitude of people who are supposed to be living in a democratic republic. - Yours, etc.,
TERENCE FLYNN, Thomastown, Sallynoggin, Co Dublin.
