Sir, – For almost eight years we have been waiting for the introduction of post codes to the State.
Various Ministers for Communication from parties as diverse as Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, Labour and the Green Party have failed to deliver on the promise, even though each has told us that the introduction was imminent – and none has given us a reason for the delays.
At this point, incredibly, we still do not know what the format of the code is likely to be. Compare this with the introduction of the property tax. This task was given to the Office of the Revenue Commissioners and within six months it had acquired geo-codes from a private company which had identified and mapped every property in the State which would seem to be a good basis for a post code system.
Maybe the task should be handed over to Revenue? – Yours, etc,
