Pensions and politics

Sir, – The Government plans to ignore the recommendations of the Commission on Pensions around the State pension age and consequently load up the young with the bill. The Government needs to remember that the majority of pensioners have children and grandchildren and do not agree with policies that lead to intergenerational division. Sinn Féin is positioning itself as the party that will look after the younger generation. In light of the fact that it is opposing the two key ways to better address intergenerational wealth transfers, property tax and increasing the pension age, its position appears hypocritical and hollow. – Yours, etc,

AILBHE MURRAY,

Cabinteely,
