Pause for Angelus

Sir, – I think Wesley Boyd protests too much about the Angelus. ("RTÉ fails to grasp the Angelus nettle once again", October 28th)

I, a non-Catholic, don’t see it as an advertisement but as a delightful pause before facing the latest horrors that the news bulletin has to bring.

BROOKE,

Latteragh,

A chara, – The Angelus can be used as a pause for prayer for all. One of the sacred sounds of the aum in yoga is that of bells ringing and it links us with the spirituality of our own round towers known in the first millennium as cloigthithe (bell houses).

It makes sense to pause our Beckettian waiting for “breaking news at the top of the hour” with a minute of stillness.
