Madam, - The Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, has brought farce to the silly season as the effects of the law excluding under-18s from pubs after 9 p.m. become apparent. Foreign tourists are flabbergasted by the ruling and Irish people are equally dumbfounded when asked to explain the rationale for denying families and friends pub food, music and craic while holidaying this summer.
Unless this insidious, anti-social ban is lifted, a large amount of tourism revenue from Irish and overseas holidaymakers will be lost to foreign markets and with it a cherished image of Ireland which has grown over the years. - Yours, etc.,
