MUSIC AT FARMLEIGH

JENNI BARRETT,

JENNI BARRETT,

Sir, - I was one of the thousands of people who recently attended one of the concerts in the Farmleigh summer concert series in the Phoenix Park.

For nothing more than the price of a stamp, I was fortunate enough to receive two tickets for the "Sinatra Years" concert through a public postal lottery system.

The concert, organised by the Office of Public Works and RTÉ Music, was a real treat. It featured entertaining arrangements by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Robert Lamb - not to mention a stunning performance by Jack L. (Close your eyes and you could have been listening to "Ol Blue Eyes" himself!) Not even the relentless rain outside the marquee could dampen the spirits of this audience - we loved it.

It has since occurred to me that we can all too often be very quick to express our dissatisfaction with public bodies, while forgetting to give credit where it is due. So, to all involved in the organisation, performance and (most impressive) staging of this event: Congratulations on a job well done and (from a newly converted Jack L fan) thank you! - Yours, etc.,

JENNI BARRETT,
