MAGAZINE DISPLAYS

KEVIN O'DONNELL,

KEVIN O'DONNELL,

Sir, - I wonder if Fionnuala O'Connor (July 18th) bothered to check the meaning of the word pornography before bandying it about so loosely in relation to magazines for men such as Loaded, FHM and Maxim. I have read some of these magazines and find them insightful and informative on issues which in the past were swept under the carpet or ignored completely; they have no pornographic content whatsoever.

Surely we are grown-up enough nowadays to realise that information is the key to education. Men have suffered over the years through not having their issues aired and dealt with in the same manner and with the same openness as women do, and these magazines are trying to overcome that. I wonder why Ms O'Connor has not bothered to write to you before about the "pornographic" content of magazines aimed at women, with the latest sex tips, etc? - Yours, etc.,

KEVIN O'DONNELL, Dublin 3.
