MacSharry’s Seanad outburst

A chara, – Anyone in doubt about the irrelevance of the Seanad need only read accounts of Marc MacSharry’s outburst (“Marc MacSharry and the fears of a clown”, Dáil Sketch, June 12th). Bring on the referendum. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I was quite disgusted by the conduct of Senator Marc MacSharry in the Seanad on Tuesday.

Whatever one’s opinion on the proposed abolition of the upper house, vitriolic personal attacks on members of either house are highly inappropriate.

Blatant disregard for the authority of the Cathaoirleach is not conduct befitting of a public representative. All Senators and Teachtaí Dála must respect the rules of the house in which they have the privilege of sitting. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Senator Marc MacSharry’s comments about the Taoiseach are more a reflection on himself than on Enda Kenny. More ammunition for the case to close the Seanad. – Yours, etc,
