Sir, – In Conor Power's article,"To Jarnac in search of François Mitterrand's final resting place", Mr Power states that Mitterrand was "the country's longest-serving head of state (14 years)".
I am sure King Louis XIV (the Sun King) would take umbrage, given he ruled France for 72 years and 110 days. Not to mention Napoleon III who has been the longest serving French head of state since the Revolution – over 20 years: firstly president and subsequently he reigned as emperor.
