Sir, – Further to Brendan Howlin's self-congratulatory letter about how the Government has sought to enhance Civil Service performance and accountability, has he read the Fennelly report? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – So Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin (September 14th) is pleased that the IMF’s AJ Chopra lauds his Government’s cheerful compliance with the lopsided austerity imposed on those least responsible for the bursting of the inflatable Celtic Tiger, and that all the pumps are flat out restoring the identical “economic order” under its makeover management and that he has the quote to prove it. Kindly allow me respond with a brief quote from Dr Martin Luther King:“Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.” – Yours, etc,
D FLINTER,
Headford,
Co Galway.
