Madam, - After the death of Detective Jerry McCabe his school friends came together to honour his memory by presenting to his alma mater, Rockwell College, a civic award medal to be given to a student each year.
At the first presentation of this medal, attended by his widow, children, father and old classmates, it fell to me to say a few words. I said that if the killers of Garda McCabe were ever released, our country would be shaking hands with anarchy. Are we now to witness our Government, in the name of political expediency, going down this treacherous path? If so, it will have betrayed the trust of the Irish people. - Yours, etc.,
FERGUS AHERN, Knockvicar, Boyle, Co Roscommon.
